Committees are specialized groups who focus on particular topics and/or issues within the social work profession and consider best practices for NASW-PA to approach these topics and issues.
CCNLIChair: (If you are interested in running for this position, email Johanna Byrd) Major Tasks: Short for "Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification." Reviews and/or recruits candidates for NASW-PA Board of Directors. Monitors NASW-PA Board elections.
Committee of Racial Equity COREChair: Major Tasks: The committee is dedicated to addressing and dismantling systemic racial inequalities within the field of social work. Through advocacy, education, and policy initiatives, the committee strives to promote racial equity and inclusivity in social work practice, ensuring that professionals are equipped to navigate diverse and multicultural environments.
Conference CommitteeChairs: Becky Suglia, Quianna Daniels-Smart Major Tasks: Proposal review for workshops. Sponsorship recruitment. Student engagement. Marketing for conference.
DisABILITY Rights CommitteeChair: Major Tasks: The committee works towards fostering an inclusive and ACCESSIBLE environment within the field of social work, aiming to eliminate barriers, challenge stigma, and advocate for policies that enhance the well-being and empowerment of people with disabilities.
Ethics CommitteeChairs: Chris Rich, Marilyn Johnson Major Tasks: Respond to ethics complaints. Provide trainings on ethics. Consult on ethical dilemmas. Write articles on ethics topics.
Legislative CommitteeChairs: Katherine Morton, Kathy Yorkvitz Major Tasks: Reviews legislation for NASW-PA. Researches/drafts legislative proposals. Drafts the NASW-PA legislative agenda for Board approval.
LGBTQIA+ CommitteeChair: Major Tasks: The committee works to promote inclusive policies, raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ issues in social work, and create a welcoming and affirming environment for both professionals and the diverse populations they serve.
Membership CommitteeChairs: Marilyn Johnson Major Tasks: Outreach to students. Welcome new members. Help recruit and retain membership.
NASW-PA PACEChair: Brendan Young Major Tasks: Endorses candidates for political office. Engages in voter mobilization efforts. Encourages social workers to run for office. Assists in LEAD. Fundraises to enhance political efforts.
Next Gen CommitteeChairs: Ke'Ana Robinson Major Tasks: The NASW-PA's Next Gen Program aims to identify students from each social work college in Pennsylvania who will serve as a link between their respective program and NASW-PA.
Workforce CommitteeChairs: Valerie Ferri, Jen Silver Major Tasks: The workforce committee focuses on challenges and opportunities to strengthen the Social Work workforce across Pennsylvania. Some of the areas we focus on include developing a stronger pipeline for Social Work professionals, educating and advocating for better working conditions for Social Workers and Social Work students, and researching ways to better support Social Workers at all phases of their career. |
