Johanna Byrd Headshot

Johanna Byrd, ACSW
Executive Director

Johanna Byrd, ACSW, IOM, CAE is currently the Executive Director for the National Association of Social Workers, Pennsylvania Chapter, where she has served for 5 years. She has worked for NASW for 22 years in a variety of positions, including as the Director of Government Affairs and Special Projects for NASW Florida Chapter, and the Executive Manager for the NASW Virgin Islands Chapter. Johanna graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas Christian University with a BA in religion studies and a BSW, and received her MSW in social work administration from Florida State University. She has served as an adjunct instructor in Social Welfare Policy and Programs, Community and Organizational Change, and Introduction to Social Work at Florida State University. Johanna serves on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Society of Association Executives, the Small Staff Association Committee for the American Society of Association Executives, and is the current Secretary for NASW’s Council of Chapter Executives. She earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from ASAE in 2017 and her Institute for Organization Management (IOM) designation from the US Chamber of Commerce in 2016. She has received professional awards including the NASW Council of Chapter Executives Gilman-Wells Award, the TCU Social Work Alumni of the Year, and the TSAE Association Professional of the Year.

Amy Sagen Headshot

Amy directs continuing education programs and oversees member services for the association. She reviews requests for continuing education programming, leads conference planning efforts, and runs the internship program at NASW-PA.

Prior to joining the staff of NASW-PA, Amy directed Alzheimer's units in a skilled nursing home, assessing/admitting residents, counseling families, educating and training staff about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Amy's background compliments other staff members' as her education and work history focuses on the aging process. Amy has developed education and support programs for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias while working in Los Angeles and has provided bereavement and grief counseling for families using hospice services throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Amy received her doctorate of social work from Kutztown / Millersville University joint program, master of science gerontology and master of social work degrees from the University of Southern California and a bachelor's of education, rehabilitation education and a minor in gerontology from The Pennsylvania State University.

Alicia serves as the Continuing Education Specialist. She manages workshop proposals and CE certificates.

Alicia Newkam holds a high school degree from Harrisburg High School and an associate's degree in human services from Harrisburg Area Community College. She has worked for the past seven years at NASW-PA, where she has fulfilled the position of continuing education specialist. Prior to joining NASW-PA, Alicia was a child care provider for more than 5 years. She is particularly interested in environmental and cultural issues.

Lorelei Aubrey
Executive  Assistant/Office Manager

Lorelei serves as the Executive  Assistant/Office Manager.

Lorelei has spent most of her career in sales and customer service, directing sales for a national magazine company and serving as the customer service manager for the beloved John Wanamaker department store. Because of her love for people, being the executive assistant/office manager at the NASW-PA office is a natural fit. Lorelei received an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Mount Aloysious College in Cresson, PA, and continues to pursue artistic interests in her spare time. She’s active in her local church and loves serving the elderly in her community.

Rachel Rhodes

Rachel serves as the Membership & Communications Strategist.

Rachel Rhodes graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a BA from the College of Communications where she majored in Journalism and a minored in English. Rachel is new to NASW and started working at the association in July of 2019. She has a background in association work and experience recruiting and retaining student membership as well as working on programs with county groups and students.
