The NASW-PA Legislative Committee is holding a press conference with multiple members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to advocate on behalf of our legislative priorities that are impacted by the statewide budget, which is passed annually. Those priorities for this year include: - REDUCING EXTREME ECONOMIC INEQUALITY IN PA (by raising the minimum wage)
- INVESTING IN OUR HUMAN SERVICES WORKFORCE
- IMPROVING ACCESS TO MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
- REDUCING HOMELESSNESS IN PA
Confirmed legislative speakers at this event include Rep. Aerion Abney, Rep. Justin Fleming, Rep. Patty Kim, Rep. Mike Schlossberg, Rep. Steve Samuelson, Rep. Tim Brennan, Rep. Tim Briggs, and Rep. Leanne Krueger, with other legislators still to be announced. Social workers are welcome to attend and gather on the steps of the rotunda to provide a show of public support for these issues. If you are able to stand in the background, please email jbyrd.naswpa@socialworkers.org with your RSVP, and then arrive inside the Capitol by 12:45 pm (and leave some time to get through security procedures, which have recently changed). Supporters may also attend to sit (or stand) in the audience and observe. |
