NASW-PA Awarded Grant to Provide Substance Abuse Training NASW-PA is proud to announce that we are one of the recipients of the Life Unites Us Community Award Grant. These grants engage and empower community-based organizations in Pennsylvania. Each organization will develop and implement outreach activities that decrease stigma and increase community understanding of substance use disorder. As part of our application, NASW-PA proposed doing a series of three events to educate social workers about substance abuse disorder and ways to reduce stigma, especially among those who don’t work in the recovery field, but may encounter substance abuse in your clinical practices, schools, agencies, hospitals, and other settings. The first of these events will be a 3-CE event in the Philadelphia/Brandywine area, a screening of a new documentary called “Our American Family,” followed by a panel discussion with some of the family members featured in the documentary. Because of the grant (and additional sponsors), this event will be FREE to NASW members and all social work students, and only $15 for non-members. This event will be held May 25th – see more details and a registration link below. The second event will be a full-day symposium in the Pittsburgh vicinity in July, and the third will be a webinar in September. Additionally, NASW-PA will have naloxone kits available for attendees to pick up during the live events. We are so pleased to be able to offer all of these events to Pennsylvania social workers at low and/or no cost due to being selected for this grant, and we appreciate the team at Life Unites Us for supporting Pennsylvania social workers by selecting us! |
