Challenges and Changes to the Culture of Hazing presented by Deborah McCoy. College hazing captures headlines, but what is often not recognized is the reality that hazing is more prevalent in our high-schools than our colleges and universities. “Tim’s Law” is the most stringent hazing law in the country, and applies to not only colleges & universities, but high-schools as well. Some of the most important information learned about school hazing in recent years has come from research conducted by Alfred University and the University of Maine. Hazing is more common among high-school students, and for many students, their first hazing experience occurs in middle-school. In recent years, hazing has become more violent and sexualized.
