Pa Masonic Youth Foundation Presents Wired for Connection: Empathy and the Teenage Brain Weds, August 19, 2026 from 9am - 12pm
Live Webinar
Course Objectives
Empathy development in youth is a complex process linked to brain development, especially during adolescence. The regions of the brain involved in empathy are still developing during adolescence which can explain why adolescents may have lower empathetic abilities compared to adults. Another study states that involvement in social media has decreased the levels of empathy among youth. However emerging research in neuroscience indicates the teenage brain is uniquely wired for creating connections allowing for an increasing capacity for empathy and social connections. There is much that can be done to develop and sustain empathy in teens. This workshop will: - Look at explore the intersection of brain development and emotional intelligence
- Examine empathy “inside” the brain, focusing on empathy evolves during adolescence
- Address the barriers to empathy
- Review resources and strategies in the development of empathy.
