Advancing Spiritual Self-Care in Enhancing Ethical Practice Caring for individuals and families navigating life changing situations is a meaningful experience, yet it can pose significant emotional, psychological, and spiritual challenges to social workers’ well-being. Prolonged exposure to suffering, trauma, and loss heightens practitioners’ risk for compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, and burnout, potentially compromising their health and ethical practice. This interactive, case-based course examines the NASW Code of Ethics in connection with the spiritual dimension of self-care and explores diverse practices for enhancing compassion satisfaction and reducing occupational strain. Consideration of practical strategies for connecting and reconnecting with one’s sense of professional purpose interweave across the discussion. Learning Objectives:
- Discuss spiritual self-care in connection with the NASW Code of Ethics.
- Describe the intersection of practitioners’ spiritual values and sense of purpose in relation to professional sustainability.
- Discuss diverse spiritual self-care practices and practical strategies of enhancing compassion satisfaction in mitigating compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, and burnout among practitioners.
