Ripple of Light Bereavement Resource Center, LLC Presents Thursday, December 10, 2026 from 1- 4pm
Live Webinar
Ethical Integration of Religion and Spirituality into Social Work Practice with Bereaved Older Adults Social workers often feel comfortable discussing religion and spirituality with bereaved adults during the initial assessment phase; however, many report limited knowledge of “how” to ethically integrate the domain across therapeutic processes. Drawing on the NASW Code of Ethics, this interactive, case-based course describes empirically-based methods and best practices for integrating bereaved adults’ religious and spiritual beliefs and values across treatment. Forester-Miller and Davis’ Seven-Step Model for ethical decision-making, with particular attention to professional self-awareness as a foundation for ethical competence. Participants will apply core ethical principles, best practices, and the Seven-Step Model to practice utilizing case study analyses. Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the relevance of engaging bereaved adults’ religion/spiritual worldviews across therapeutic processes to holistic assessment and treatment.
- Describe practical methods for integrating bereaved adults’ religion/spiritual beliefs and values across therapeutic processes.
- Apply Forester-Miller and Davis’ Seven-Step Model for ethical decision-making, the Code of Ethics guidelines, and best practice methods of integrating the religion/spiritual domain across therapeutic processes.
- Identify personal beliefs and values that could implicitly affect therapeutic processes.
