Course Objectives
The landscape of youth mental health is rapidly evolving in response to social, technological, and environmental changes. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the numbers of children and adolescents experiencing major depressive episodes and anxiety, mood, attention and behavior disorders. One in five of our youth experience mental illness while nearly one in three adolescents will meet the criteria for an anxiety disorder by the age of 18. This workshop will examine the latest trends, data, and research shaping the mental well-being of today’s young people. Participants will explore the factors influencing youth mental health - including social media exposure, post-pandemic adjustment, identity development, academic pressures, and global uncertainty - and consider how these forces intersect. Objectives - Participants will learn about current mental health issues impacting youth;
- Attendees will gain an understanding of the impact of technology on the mental health of youth;
- Participants will examine the risk and protective factors impacting the mental health of youth;
- Attendees will review resources and learn strategies that help improve the mental health of youth.
