Deadline to register is 12/16

Data shows what’s happening, but stories show who it’s happening to. Join us to explore why personal stories, like those made famous by Studs Terkel, are powerful tools for advocacy and public awareness. You’ll learn how to spot clients with stories that matter, understand the difference between data and lived experience, and see how sharing these stories can drive real change for health coverage in Pennsylvania. If you care about making an impact beyond the numbers, this session is for you. Learning Objectives After this training, participants will be able to: 1. Spot clients and groups most likely to be impacted by upcoming Medicaid and Pennie changes, including work requirements, paperwork barriers, and new eligibility rules. 2. Explain the consequences of noncompliance—such as loss of Medicaid eligibility and Pennie subsidies—to clients in clear, accessible language. 3. Describe the broader impact of federal policy changes (like H.R.1) on Pennsylvania communities, using relevant data and real-world examples. 4. Describe why personal stories are essential for advocacy and public understanding of these health coverage changes, and distinguish the impact of stories from data alone. 5. Recognize the value of oral history—à la Studs Terkel—for capturing the lived experience behind policy changes, and apply this perspective to advocacy work.
