Diakon Family Life Services’ SAP training includes:
- Theories and concepts necessary for effective SAP team functioning
- Training on state SAP guidelines
- Information on age-appropriate development, mental health, substance abuse, and resilience
- Guidelines on local, regional and state resources
The training provides an overview of the Student Assistance Program in Pennsylvania, including the stages of a referral, typical barriers to learning, observable behaviors, and parental engagement. The training highlights the importance of teamwork, building a comprehensive student goal plan and important laws related to education and mental health. In addition, trauma informed care and cultural diversity are stressed as important concepts.. Drug addiction and the impacts on students or families are discussed.
