  Enhancing the Psychosocial-Spiritual Well-Being of Bereaved Older Adults      Older adults’ prior life experiences, coping mechanisms, health changes, and social network affect their perspective taking and response to a loved one’s death manifestly different than younger generations. This interactive, case-based session describes the 65 plus population’s predominate distinct death-related losses and their respective effects on psychosocial-spiritual well-being. Drawing on the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement, the session outlines practical strategies and best practices for enhancing bereaved older adults’ health and minimizing bereavement overload utilizing person-centered assessment and treatment methods.
Learning Objectives: Describe the distinct death-related losses that older adults experience and the psychosocial- spiritual effect on well-being in relation to bereavement assessment and treatment.   Discuss practical strategies for enhancing bereaved older adults’ well-being specific to each distinct death-related loss across therapeutic processes.   Analyze case studies utilizing older adult distinct person-centered assessment and treatment methods and best practices.        4.  Apply the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement and strategies to practice using a   case study.
