NASW-PA Shared Interest Groups

What is a Shared Interest Group?

Shared Interest Groups can be topic focused or regionally focused. The primary form of communication for the group will be through a listserv (group e-mail contact). The purpose of the groups is to provide an opportunity for networking, information-sharing, and professional development with those who have shared professional interests. Additionally, these groups are charged with bringing concerns to the Board of Directors for potential action. Shared Interest Groups also serve as a resource in regards to legislative advocacy efforts to educate and inform chapter staff about issues within a specific field of practice. Regionalgroups serve to bring together members within one division.

Who can be part of a Shared Interest Groups?

Only members can join a interest group or have staff create a interest group. Any group of five or more NASW-PA members may request that a shared interest group be created on a specific topic.

Please be aware that Shared Interest Groups were not created as an opportunity for personal financial gain or as a venue to advertise profit-making events. Any member utilizing the groups in this manor will be restricted from posting. Shared Interest Group participants will be held to the NASW Code of Ethics (click here for an electronic copy of the NASW Code of Ethics). Although the code does not specifically instruct members on electronic mail and social media, please contact the NASW Office of Ethics & Professional Review or NASW-PA chapter office to discuss any ethical concern before posting information to the group listserv.
