MARCH MARKS NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH
Recognizes Contributions of Nearly 40,000 Degreed Social Workers across the Commonwealth

Camp Hill, Pa. -- The National Association of Social Workers, Pennsylvania Chapter (NASW-PA), is proud to announce the beginning of this year’s Social Work Month acknowledging the contributions of the nearly 40,000 degreed social workers across the commonwealth, as well as over 650,000 social workers nationwide. This annual celebration provides the opportunity to honor the degreed professionals that seek to create positive change through advocacy, education and inspiration.

Social workers are highly trained professionals committed to promoting social change and helping individuals, families, groups and communities enhance their capacity for social functioning. “Social workers are central to the health and sustainability of our communities through their work in our schools, hospitals, nursing homes, government agencies and veteran’s clinics” said Ron Simon, executive director of NASW-PA.

Social work is a diverse and proud profession that is growing at an exponential rate. The 42 schools of social work in Pennsylvania are experiencing record levels of enrollment, and the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment for social workers to continue to grow faster than the national average for all occupations.

“Our theme for Social Work Month this year is ‘All People Matter’. We’re proud of our 116-year commitment to the dignity and worth of each and every person,” said Simon. "Social Work is a growing and progressive profession. As the world changes around us and society continues to evolve, the role of social workers will only become greater. Social workers change futures as we impact society with our strong-held value that ‘All People Matter’".
