including substance use, abuse, addiction, tolerance, dependence, relapse, and denial.

• Understand the various medications, therapeutic treatment options, and support resources
presently available to physicians, therapists, social workers, the afflicted, and family members.

• Recognize the unwarranted and defamatory role of stigma in addiction and its function as a
barrier in the healing process.
