Transgender: Best Practices for Mental Health Care Providers

Click HERE to View the Flyer

Well-meaning, committed mental health care providers often feel at a loss for meeting the needs of transgender patients because little information or training exists on the topic. This workshop will address treatment and ethical considerations for those working with members of the Transgender community.  Participants in this training will identify their own understandings and assumptions about gender and explore how those understandings may affect their work.
The trainer will provide general information about transgender communities, including terminology and common transgender experiences as well as suggestions for creating an agency, practice, or clinic that is transgender welcoming. Participants will become familiar with referrals and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standard of Care including the recommendation letter often required of mental health providers. This training is an opportunity for clinicians to increase their skills and comfort in actively serving transgender people. The workshop is interactive and skills-oriented, providing participants with information and strategies to use in their current work. All levels of experience or understanding of transgender issues welcome.
